Frequently Asked Questions...
What is life coaching?
Life coaching is a forward-focused, positive psychology process designed to help you gain clarity, overcome obstacles, and move toward your goals. Rather than diagnosing or treating mental health conditions, coaching helps you identify where you are, where you want to go, and what is getting in the way. It is practical, action-oriented, and centered on personal growth and transformation. How is life coaching different than counseling?
Much like counseling, life coaching takes place in a safe, warm, respectful, and non-judgmental environment where you are free to speak openly and honestly in complete confidentiality. However, while counseling is typically focused on healing from past wounds, diagnosing mental health concerns, and working through significant emotional or psychological challenges, coaching is a forward-focused process designed to help you gain clarity, raise awareness, examine underlying beliefs, and move toward meaningful, self-directed change. It is best suited for individuals who feel they are functioning fairly well but are stuck, want greater clarity, or are ready to move forward in a specific area of life. Coaching does not diagnose or treat mental health conditions. What is metanoia-informed life coaching?
Metanoia is a biblical concept often translated as “repentance,” but more fully understood as a transformation of the mind—a deep and change in how a person thinks and believes. Metanoia-informed life coaching is similar to cognitive behavior theory in that it focuses on identifying and transforming the underlying beliefs that drive behavior. Instead of only addressing what you do, this approach helps you examine what you believe—and how those beliefs are shaping your emotions, decisions, and patterns. The goal is lasting, internal change that leads to consistent, external results. This framework is especially impactful in areas such as marriage, relationships, parenting, and spiritual development, where those underlying beliefs often influence how individuals connect, communicate, and grow over time. What can I expect in a metanoia-informed coaching session?
Metanoia-informed coaching is both practical and deeply reflective. Sessions are conversational and focused, but move beyond surface-level problem solving to examine the underlying beliefs influencing how you think, feel, and act.Sessions are conducted via phone or video call and typically last 30 to 50 minutes. Early on, the process is highly reflective—giving you a safe, supportive space to think out loud, explore your experiences, and gain clarity. Through intentional questions, we identify patterns and what I call “operational beliefs”—the internal convictions driving them—and evaluate whether they are true, helpful, and aligned with scriptural principles. This often includes recognizing limiting beliefs, distorted thinking, or deeply held “lies” that may be influencing your life.As those beliefs are replaced with ones grounded in Truth, change becomes more natural and sustainable—impacting your decisions, responses, and habits over time. This work is not about quick fixes, but lasting transformation for those willing to think deeply and pursue alignment between what they believe and how they live. What is the cost for a session and how do I get started?
To start the process, please schedule a discovery call using the link on the main page. The discovery call is free and usually lasts for about 15 minutes. The purpose of the discovery call is to ensure we are a good fit and to determine whether coaching would be helpful for the issues you're facing. If we both feel that it would be beneficial to move forward with regular coaching, the cost for a typical coaching session is $75. Coaching sessions last between 40 and 50 minutes and will be scheduled online. What is the deal with the balloon and the rock?
The “balloon and the rock” is a simple way to understand why change often doesn’t last. The balloon represents your behaviors—what people can see. The rock represents your underlying beliefs—what is holding everything in place beneath the surface. Many people try to change by forcing the balloon (their behavior) into a new position. But if the rock (their core belief) hasn’t changed, the tension builds and eventually the balloon snaps back to where it was before.Real, lasting change happens when you “move the rock”—when you identify and replace the belief that is driving the pattern. When the rock moves, the balloon naturally follows.
